We founded Salal Consulting in 2010 and have since provided our services to a number of clients and organizations.  Our work helps clients embed sustainability and reconciliation values into practice. 

Salal Consulting, like the plant behind the name, is a local, sustainable and versatile resource meeting a variety of needs in the contemporary environment.

Alison Biely

Alison recently worked as an Indigenous Specialist with BC Hydro. This work involved relationship building, consultation and engagement on capital projects, seeking procurement opportunities and building capacity in First Nation communities. Alison was Project Manager of two highly successful internal Cultural Awareness training courses.

Alison has provided extensive research support and analysis services to Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada in the context of Indian Residential Schools litigation, dispute resolution and independent assessment processes. She has worked extensively in all aspects of research including research planning, information processing, litigation and trial preparation, project coordination and protocol development. 

 

Alison also provided research services to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada for the Missing Children Project. This project involved researching and documenting the deaths and burial places of children who died while attending a residential school.

Alison has spent many years working as a consulting archaeologist conducting historic and prehistoric archaeological/anthropological projects throughout BC. She has participated in and coordinated archaeological overview assessments, preliminary field reconnaissance, and archaeological impact assessments, and has carried out archaeological mitigation projects. Alison can hold Heritage Conservation Act permits  in Northwest Coast and Interior Plateau regions and has held held professional membership with the BC Association of Professional Archaeologists.

Alison is also an experienced project manger and obtained her Professional Project Management (PMP) certification in 2012.

Dara Edmonds

Dara is a skilled sustainability professional with over 15 years of experience in sustainability reporting, strategy, stakeholder engagement, communications, project management, and client relations. Results-oriented with strong analytical, conceptual, planning and decision-making skills. Excellent writer and communicator, able to present complex concepts clearly. Adept at driving change by engaging internal stakeholders in creating common objectives, leveraging organizational strengths, and improving internal processes.

Dara specializes in the areas of corporate social responsibility, sustainability assurance, and reporting. Believing what gets measured gets managed, Dara helps organizations identify and quantify their impacts on stakeholders and report on performance. This work includes strategic sustainability reporting, evaluations of corporate performance, reporting, data management, and organizational systems, as well as the application of external assurance standards such as AA1000, GRI, GRI G4, and ICMM's Assurance Framework. Dara looks to collaborate with clients to develop realistic and workable sustainability strategies and implementation measures.

Dara also works on regional social sustainability issues. Over the years she has assisted not-for-profits and governments with program assessments and the development of sustainability indicators, benchmarks, targets, and sustainability strategies. She is equally adept at working with stakeholders, having coordinated and conducted numerous stakeholder education and consultation sessions designed to lay the foundation for sustainability initiatives.
