Consultation and Engagement

Salal has experience in providing meaningful consultation and building respectful relationships. Work has involved facilitating planning and implementing cross-cultural engagement and consultation early in project life-cycles; we have been involved chairing meetings, responding to input, resolving conflicts, negotiating capacity funding agreements and seeking procurement opportunities.

Project Management

Salal had many years of Project Management experience ranging from project planning through to project evaluation. We are able to assemble project teams drawing on an extensive network of skilled professionals to ensure successful project completion. Alison Biely holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.

Historical and Litigation Research

Salal's team has provided historical research and services to Aboriginal Affairs and Norther Development Canada (AANDC). We conduct research planning, document/resource management, archival research, litigation research, support and analysis, and report writing.

Research and Reporting

Salal Consulting has specialized in issues pertaining to Canada's Indian residential schools and the on-going settlement processes between the Federal Government and First Nations.  Salal has also worked with the Truth and Reconciliation of Canada's Missing Children and Unmarked Graves research. Work includes research planning, reporting and management of team members.

Anthropological & Archaeological Consulting

Salal has experience in conducting archaeological overview assessments, preliminary field reconnaissance and archaeological impact assessments as well as carrying out archaeological mitigation. We have worked, consulted and liaised with First Nations, conducted ethnographic interviews, undertaken literature reviews and developed training materials. Alison Biely has hld Heritage permits in the Interior Plateau and Northwest Coast culture areas.

Cultural Awareness Training

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Call to Action #92 calls on the corporate sector to provide education for management and staff. Working with BC Hydro, Alison Biely managed the development of two internal Cultural Awareness Training courses; a 30 minute on-line course and a 4-hour in class course. Courses developed with internal stakeholders, learning experts, and external and internal First Nations facilitators.
